Indra’s Net project progress

Interconnectedness and reflectivity

Gallery 263 Winter Residency

Georgia is creating an installation investigating interconnectedness and reflectivity. Her project is inspired by a 3rd century Buddhist tale which recurs in Mahayana Buddhist texts of the god Indra’s lair, which featured a net stretching to infinity with a jewel at each rope intersection. Using thread, rope, mercury glass, hematite, and ancient fishing net tying techniques also associated with survival and emergency response, she is constructing an installation meant to reiterate the viewer’s visage in the reflected surfaces and and embed the viewer in the scene, causing feelings of belonging and shared experience.
